A fine line between criminal and insanity

This topic isn't for the weak or the closed-minded. This is a trigger warning topic.

It's true, there is a fine line between criminal and insanity,

But where do we draw the line?

Where does the person take responsibility for their actions, or is their condition deep enough that you can shift the blame?

A mental illness is never an excuse for any actions, but it is a reason.

It is the responsibility of the person to be able to work through the weaknesses in general, not just with mental illness.

The general public does understand that a mental illness does play a large part in the decision-making,

But this is where the fine line comes into play.

If the person is aware of this and experiencing negative thoughts, are they seeking help? Telling someone, anyone? Properly taking medication? Are they on medication? What is the process that they are taking to not take action on negative thoughts?

Are they aware of these thoughts?

Where do we draw the line?
