you can’t touch me anymore.
so why is it that i still flinch
when people go in to hold me?
why is it that
when they raise their hand
to give me a high five
i bury my head in my arms?
but you can’t touch me anymore
right?
so why is it that
when i’m laying in this bed and
i catch the slight scent of your cologne
i start shaking in fear?
or when i hear the sound of yelling
i look for a place to hide.
YOU CAN’T TOUCH ME ANYMORE.
YOU AREN’T HERE ANYMORE.
but i’ll still hide,
in fear you’ll eventually return.
i’ll still cover my ears,
to tune out the sound of your voice.
you may be gone
but, the bruises?
they’ll still appear.
my breath?
oh how it still stops,
due to you taking away my air.
i’ll still walk amongst these egg shells,
in fear of upsetting you.
you can’t touch me anymore.
but your memory?
it still can.
