I gave birth to a thing
So great and vast,
That I could not touch it.
I kept it as a dear companion
Throughout my life.
I gave it love, tenderness,
Decided to name it “Sadness”.
But one day, Sadness evolved
Into Melancholy.
I let him follow me, quietly.
He was considerate of my focus and time.
And I let him become a menace,
Even though he did not hurt me.
I let him become a menace,
Even though he was passive and soft.
I decided to let him walk ahead,
So he could see the light!
He did not change a bit.
I did.
