MEET BIRDY BIRD

Birdy Bird was born quite odd,
he never learnt to fly,
he sat beneath a watching tree
and argued with the sky.

The tree had eyes in every branch,
they watched him night and day,
but Birdy Bird just winked at them
and looked the other way.

He wore his orange Sunday chest,
his feathers brushed just right,
then spotted something red and strange
that made his heart take flight.

It dangled from a crooked twig,
with LOVE across its face,
and Birdy thought, “At bloody last,
romance has found this place.”

He kissed the sign at half past three,
then asked it for a date,
the watching tree rolled all its eyes,
but Birdy would not wait.

He brought it worms for breakfast,
and berries tied with string,
then sang a song so terrible
the leaves forgot to swing.

The LOVE sign never answered him,
it simply hung about,
but Birdy said, “She’s shy, that’s all,
she’ll love me without doubt.”

By Sunday he had built a nest
with petals round the side,
then asked the little wooden sign
to kindly be his bride.

The tree looked down in disbelief,
the moon came out to stare,
while Birdy kissed his silent love
and ruffled up his hair.

So if you see our Birdy Bird
still courting bits of wood,
don’t tell him love has lost its mind,
he thinks it’s bloody good. ❤️
