She comes home
From a bad day at work
She gets out
Her old high school yearbook
She’s looking for some comfort
In those pictures that’s all
She realizes all those years later
She’s not in them at all.
She was the one who didn’t want her picture taken
She’s the one who hid from them every time
She’s the one who cries when she realizes
I should have mattered enough to somebody
For them to take my picture anyway.
We all have that friend
Who shies away from the spotlight
They say it’s okay
For you to shine and them to watch
They won’t force their way
To the front of the line
And they all hide
When what they want to do is fly
So grab ahold of that friend
And bring them along beside you
Don’t let them be alone with
No pictures in their book
Years down the road they’ll
Smile when they see the both of you
And they’ll know they matter after all.
They are the ones who didn’t want their picture taken
They are the one who hid from them every time
They cry when they see you beside them
That they mattered enough to somebody
For them to take their picture anyway.
