Mary Lou

Terra is a great land very strict on hue,

with only shades of pink and blue.

A little boy was delivered,

as his great cries were heard.

His parents were so elated,

for this baby had long been awaited.

They named him Little Boy Hugh,

and draped him in shades of blue.

Growing up, Little Boy Hugh radiated,

in light to navy blue, he was illuminated.

He was sent to school,

where other boys in blue rule.

One summer day, little boy Hugh became aware,

of patches of unknown hues here and there.

Yellow on his hands, pink on his arms,

violet on his legs – it caused him alarm.

Little Boy Hugh tried to hide these colorful hues,

and bathed himself in different shades of blues.

But these colors persisted,

and Little Boy Hugh became exhausted.

Finally, he saw the distinction,

and came to a realization.

He now knew that he wasn’t blue, he wasn't pink,

he was banded with colors linked.

As the years went by,

these colors solidified.

She proudly began to embrace her rainbow,

and let all the colors show.

She then called herself Mary Lou, the little boy they once knew.
