Marks That Faded

Memories that want to hold you back

Marks That Faded

Longer and sharper and drier

leaving behind red lines with every pass

with every warm-breathed kiss

under the heaviness of darkness

a little bruise, a scratch left behind

longer and sharper and drier

faith lost in a whimper

soft hair brushing past skin

alive in imagined starlight

a bite, a grasp at nothing

longer and sharper and drier

the nights that came after

memories keeping watch

over ever-deepening dreams

skin healed over, carrying none of the marks

longer and sharper and drier

are the scars left behind

thoughts only resurrected

in the dark, heart skipping

with every glimpse back

longer and sharper and drier

memories I sometimes wish I could regret
