Marigold
For my daughter
Bask in the sun, my splendid marigold
Ancient Aztec hopes are seeded in you
It’s love that makes your roots grow deep and bold
Storms may devastate before dreams unfold
After dark clouds, rays of brilliance shine through
Bask in the sun, my splendid marigold
Vibrant petals, color of burnished gold
Give thanks to the earth that nourishes you
It’s love that lets your roots grow deep and bold
Winter’s frost may come to any household
But seasons pass, golden blooms come anew
Bask in the sun, my splendid marigold
A mother’s courage, with strength untold
Tills soil, crushes rock to help you break through
It’s love that lets your roots grow deep and bold
If wandering winds fill your sails, grab hold
We’ll meet you under brush stroked skies of blue
Bask in the sun, my splendid marigold
It’s love that makes your roots grow deep and bold
