Your armor was dipped in marigold
radiant orange
gentle as a petal
resilient like silk.
🌬
Your son in spirit.
You fed my soul, nurtured me
when I nearly lost it.
🌬
You melted the ivory tower.
A self-made author—
you taught me
to till my orchard.
🌬
You sheltered the deserted during Desert Storm—
think what you will of them—
you loved them unconditionally.
🌬
Your truth:
Consciousness is and cannot unbe.
As the marigolds self-seed
maybe we too,
in some new garden,
take root, again.
🌬
Kindred spirits are ancient,
timeless within;
we find our soul mates
inseparable,
as if we've known them
forever.
🌬
In the morning, practicing Tai Chi
as life uprooted
returns
from Hurricane Milton,
I'll wear your armor —
marigold,
gentle, resilient,
silk-steel.
