Marching Back From War
Just glad to be back on British soil

Marching Back From War
Marching back from war tonight
Boots dragging through the rain
Every face beside me carries
Its own version of pain
The crowds stand waving flags high
Calling all of us brave
Still some of us left pieces
Inside another grave
The sound of guns stays living
Deep inside my head
Echoing through the silence
Long after blood was shed
I think about the letters
My mother used to send
Reading every word slowly
Like prayers that helped defend
Some soldiers never made it
Some came back half alive
Smiling for the cameras
While barely trying to survive
The medals shine like silver
Still they cannot replace
The brothers lost in darkness
Time cannot erase
Nightmares wait beside me
Every time I sleep
Memories crawl from shadows
Pulling me too deep
Marching back from war now
Yet war won’t let me go
Because some battles stay alive
Long after the final blow
