Marathon
Every July / a race on Mt. Marathon / "Happy 4th," they say.
***************************
Swiftly they tumble —
A treacherous slope.
Fools caught in your game.
***************************
Some in costume with fun, some bathed in fear. All of them determined and rallied by our cheers!
***************************
Every year on the weekend of July 4th, thousands crowd into the small town of Seward, Alaska. From around the world they come–runners, climbers, hikers, amateurs and professionals–Like ants they climb Mt. Marathon. They are fools. Just like us all. Alaskans through and through. At least as they run. The best hometown in the world.
