Manufactured Sound

lyric

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 5 months ago 2 min read

(Verse 1)

He picks up a leather book and picks out a holy line

Using ancient words to make his narrative shine.

But cherrypicking verses doesn’t change a hollow heart

It’s a performance he’s giving, and he’s well practiced the part.

Verse 2

He takes the word of grace and he turns it into a rule

To keep you feeling small and playing you for a fool

If you look up at a human like they’re closer to the sky

You’re only giving them the room to tell you bigger lies.

(Chorus)

It’s a manufactured sound, designed to make you feel good

To make you stop questioning the things that you should.

It’s a hollow kind of story that is being bought and sold

To keep you feeling warm while your heart is turning cold.

Don’t be misled by a voice that’s staged and thin

By a manufactured sound that tries to rope you in.

Don’t elevate a person, don’t give anyone that weight

They’ll use the holy word just to teach you how to hate.

(Verse 3)

It isn't just about the money that a leader wants to take

It’s the narrative of hatred they’re trying to create.

They use a comforting tone to make the poison go down

While they build themselves a throne and brandish a fake crown.

Verse 4

They wrap their own resentment in verses about the light

And use your silent comfort to justify their need to fight.

But holiness isn't found in a speech or in a tone

It’s not in the echoes of a heart that’s made of stone.

(Bridge)

When you put a man on high, you’re just building up a wall

Between yourself and what is real, waiting for the fall.

The feeling that they give you is a weapon and a snare

A manufactured sound that hangs in the air.

Chorus

It’s a manufactured sound, designed to make you feel good

To make you stop questioning the things that you should.

It’s a hollow kind of story that is being bought and sold

To keep you feeling warm while your heart is turning cold.

Don’t be misled by a voice that’s staged and thin

By a manufactured sound that tries to hem you in.

Don’t elevate a person, don’t give anyone that weight

They’ll use a holy sentence just to teach you how to hate.

(Outro)

It feels good, but it isn't true.

It’s a manufactured sound meant for you.

Don’t be misled.

Don't be misled.

Don't be misled.
