There is no me in myself.

I am your mannequin. Dress me in lace.

Give me a gown that shines.

Reform, shape, mold my face,

Whatever won’t leave me behind.

.

If you say I’m hideous, I’ll nod along.

If pretty, it’s by your design.

There is no me in myself.

Hollow plastic can have no mind.

.

Will I be melted, destroyed?

My fate is in your hands.

Though I’ve no worth, I can’t help

But hope to be put on the stand:

.

There - with those few puppets

Displayed for all to see,

Heaven’s light shining upon them,

Why not that same spotlight for me?

.

I could be content with no stage.

I’m comfortable in shrubbery.

I know lace and spotlight mean nothing,

But they’d prove that I’m worth being seen.
