Maker Met

An Ekphrastic Sonnet

By D. J. ReddallPublished 6 months ago • 1 min read
"The Misery" Painted by Adolf Werner (1862–1916).

If you can't create, why procrastinate?

Your wretched existence had some meaning;

Having churned out beauty at a mad rate

Suddenly you sit, idle and groaning?

Your muttering paralysis is sad!

You tasted the joy of wild creation

Your elegant brush strokes made many glad

I know the cause of your consternation:

You have exhausted your favorite tricks

Once fecund, your imagination's dry

The great acrobat a smooth landing sticks;

If you have nothing new, then you must try

To conjure a conclusion artful, deft

Having strutted the boards, exit stage left!

Ekphrastic
