Perched serenely atop lofty gumtrees
Magpies softly warble a melody
“Welcome... this is our birthplace, October!”
*
Jasmine's pink buds unfurl into white stars
Sweet scents waft with Wisteria fragrance
Purple and white blooms climb walls and arches.
*
October hosts its annual party
Celebrating Magpies, the Birthday birds
Sun kissed oranges fall and spill their juice.
*
Invitations are posted by Air Mail
Winging their way as a chorus duet
To friends passing by along winding paths.
*
Pretty blue and green eggs speckled with brown
Nestle closely inside a bowl-shaped nest
Safe and sound, way up high in October.
*
Each and every year in October
Hatchlings and nestlings; branchlings and fledglings
Morph from pink and bald to fully feathered.
*
Busy bees buzz; butterflies flutter by
in October, Magpies keep watch on high
Sometimes swooping on cyclists and joggers.
*
Heed the Magpies' call; visit one and all
With Spring in your step and no sign of Fall
A day in October is such a ball.
*
Inspired by October's Aussie Spring and written for the "October Challenge".
