The last bird of the night took flight

As the sweet magnolia released its final scent

Stilling in the glow of the moon and

Drifting to soar amongst the stars

Echoes of silence sang out to the dark

Just as the witching hour approached

And the bird kissed the asphalt with its beak

A reckless calm settled beneath the watchful eyes above

As it gave its final breath to the paved path below

She stood in disbelief, watching helplessly

Time continued as he always had

Yet was also unhurried

As he paused, allowing her

To commit the scene to memory
