Through a child's eyes, I did perceive
a cluster of trees, paired with a faint breeze,
and I did not worry, nor did I grieve,
for I witnessed beauty and my peril did freeze.
Society, of compassion, is barren,
and of solipsism it does reek.
What I feel is isolation therein,
but what I saw was simply magnifique.
Trees laden with different shades of light;
the sky provided a certain glow,
as my spirit rose to new height,
and I thought not of dread and woe.
What I felt was perhaps more than mere sensation,
for through reaction, I must confess,
importance of code and nation
seemed to me less and less.
Yet the truth, I keep in mind,
for I continue to vainly seek
that which I cannot find.
Every day I grow more weak.
I cannot find what was magnifique.
The longer I live, the more I learn
life is not as it was when I was born.
For further company I often yearn,
but do not seek for fear of scorn.
I am son, brother, and friend;
to others I am strange and meek.
I, alone, know myself 'til the end.
Perhaps there I shall find what I seek,
and witness what was magnifique.
