Luckier than most.

At times I find myself wondering how lucky I am.

Perhaps I am luckier than most.

I live in a country of free will,

A country where I am not always terrified, even if terribly ill.

I have tasted freedom while others fight for it,

And that is something I will never forget.

I live in a country where rights are there for me on a silver platter,

A country where I can be whatever I want, and whoever I want, it does not matter—

But I live alone,

No family, no place to call home.

I do not have to fear for my life,

I do not have to travel, always carrying a knife.

But is it truly a life, if I am so isolated?

No, no, I have everything; I must be satiated.

Even if across the world I have family,

Even if across the world I have cousins who live happily.

Cousins? I only know names, not faces,

Almost like strangers, roaming random places.

They celebrate everything together,

But I am here, in a country of freedom, and know nothing about them whatsoever.

Yes, somewhere I have family, but I know not who they are,

And perhaps that has left a couple of scars.

Yes, I am luckier than most,

But at what cost?

That is not to say I am ungrateful,

And in no way will I become hateful.

But perhaps one day, the grey clouds will clear,

And I will see the blue sky again, maybe not today, or tomorrow, but perhaps in a year.

I will build my own family, so my children are not so alone,

I will build an empire, step by step, stone by stone.

For maybe one day, I will have children who are not so unhappy,

Yes, that is the dream that I will carry.

To live in a world where freedom is not fought for,

And where happiness is not so deep in the ocean, but on the shore.

Yes, I am luckier than most,

But one day, I will stop living like a ghost.

I will have colour returned back into my world,

And have my wings unfurled.

I will fly to the sky, seek the happiness that I have never before sought.
