LUCINDA WILLIAMS

11/8/2023

It's a Lucinda Williams kinda mood..

That's when the amber light of an orange sunset..

Paints the faces staring out of Greyhound bus windows..

It just left the town in its diesel wake..

The passing cars and their passengers..

All get the glares,

the sullen looks,

the excited smiles of children on a first venture out of the norm..

From the home they've only ever known..

The factory speakers in a car try their best..

To give as much respect as they can..

To Lucinda's songs..

While the sun accompanies her final note..

As you,

The bus,

And countless others..

Ride the highways of this world..

Searching for a place to stop.

The song has faded with the light of the setting sun..

As darkness swallows us..

Into the warm embrace..

Of its cozy womb.
