A Sonnet

I love you so, my lovely Isabel.

I’d give my life to see you rest in ease.

Sleep now, dear mom, may your spirit know peace.

Your voice still rings, a bright and gentle bell.

All of your life, your mission was to give love.

Unselfishly, you offered all your time.

You gave and gave, and never asked a dime.

When your day comes, you’ll dance with light above.

I am your son, so many years gone by.

My body’s weary now; I need my rest.

I’ve given my time. I’ve given my best.

The road to my peace comes with your goodbye.

I know it will hurt, my heart it will test

When that day arrives I know I will cry

Writing fulfills my need for intellectual stimulus, emotional release, and soothing the bruises of the day.

I’m an open book. I’m not afraid to show my face or speak my mind
