They say it’s better to have loved and lost,

Than never to have loved at all.

It isn’t true.

*

The skirting worry

Flitting through the mind,

And wondering whether lost is lost,

Or whether they’ve no time to find.

*

It’s better to have loved and lost

Than knowing you had naught to lose.

That what you thought was something real

Was something that your love refused.
