The tension between love and apprehension
What you need but are too afraid to seek
For fear of being thrown on the reject pile
And having to turn the other cheek.
***
From young to old we see others
Our friends, neighbors and old lovers
Move on with love renewed
Whilst we tell ourselves,
Another rejection is too much to be suffered.
***
To have loved and lost is never to have loved at all
The heart-swell of emotion we felt
Was just a lie we told ourselves
A way in which our loneliness can be dealt.
***
But to live in quiet solitude
When happiness possibly awaits
Is surely a waste of our lives’ potential
Our happiness may very well negate
***
So, love will always find a way they say
If not you need to find it first
A partner to go through life with
And to satiate your love,
and loving need and thirst.
