Love Letter to the Ocean

love and pain as deep as the sea (written in Virginia)

Things are rocky

I don't know you

You pull so hard

and push with punches

you jab with salt

and kiss like the sun.

I'm sorry I'm timid

I'm terrified of the unknown.

I know your beauty

I also know that in your shadows

monsters with spikes

and teeth

Linger

I'm sorry I'm anxious.

Sometimes

I have enough anger

just in the tips of my fingers

to turn these fistfuls of sand into glass.

-

I used to think letting go

was wrong

I used to thing it was my job

to hold on.

It's easy to let go of anger

when you realize

it's an anchor.

It's easier to drift

when I think

it's not

away

from you.
