Love is Just a Word

How many times, would you say,

You’ve used the words, “I Love...”?

Have you ever asked for love

From the heavens up above?

How many times, would you say,

You’ve asked, “What does it mean?”

This is because the big “L” word

Is something that’s unseen

We say “I Love You” here and there

To people, things and times

We can express the love we feel

Through art and songs and rhymes

In terms of its sheer opposite,

The polar of Love is Fear

But let’s not get deep into that…

We’ll focus on Love here

So, “What is Love?” You ask yourself

Despite all that you’ve heard

Well don’t be shocked. I’m here to say

That Love is just a Word

Love is just a sound we make

A noise we choose to voice

To express a concept so profound

Connected to free-choice

Love is just a word we use

Explaining how we feel

It’s what’s behind, beneath the word,

The FEELING that is real

How do you really know yourself?

Think about that now…

Emotions we experience,

Our ‘feeling state’ is how

It takes a great Pandemic

For humans to really see

The outside world is second to

What’s Inside of Me

It’s time to really understand

What’s going on inside

And trust me when I tell you this:

From yourself you cannot hide

If Love is just a word we use

Then what’s the thing we feel?

Not when we’re in the ego state

But when we know it’s real?

We say we Love our families,

Our dogs and things we eat

But this Real Love I’m speaking of

Is found within defeat

It’s found within the trauma

And the losing of a friend

It’s found when we feel hopeless

And like darkness has no end

Love cannot be separate

To the moments we’re in pain

Its very nature moves towards

A connection to obtain

Love is just a word explaining

The flow of energy

That moves within all things as One

Like the tide within the sea

If Fear pushes things away

Then Love pulls things as One

It moves all things together

Like the Earth and Moon and Sun

Love is an intelligence

That flows in everything

It’s also there when bad things

Leave a mark, a scar, a sting

Do not believe a loss of joy

Means Love is absent too

You can’t escape from feeling it

And here is why: it’s YOU

Love is just a word you see?

It’s everything you are

It’s just as present in a frown

As it is within a star

Love is just a word we use

You cannot get around it

It’s Who and What You Are inside

You cannot go without it

So don’t get caught up in a world

Focused on the speech

Taking count and keeping track

As if it’s out of reach

Love is just a word that points us

to what’s Truly Real

Love is not a sound we make

Love is how we feel
