Love and Money
Money can sometimes make right or wrong irrelevant...
“Mom, all you need is love,” Jasper once told me with conviction in his voice.
I would have proven his point valid, if I’d had the choice.
Because the truth he spoke of in his pure little heart
Has been many a family’s anthem right from the start.
Well, we had love, we had family, and we had support.
But They had the money for the lawyer in court.
And just a week before our babies were due to come home,
I was served with papers stating we’d continue to be alone.
How we cried, how we ranted, how our fists at the sky we shook
At knowing access to money was really all that it took
To negate our progress, our extensive support system
And make us tell our children we could not be with them.
A week before they could sleep in their brand new bed,
A week before we’d have them clothed and fed.
A week before they could finally get their wish…
It was made clear we could not fight this.
Then the big empty stepped in to the picture
And starting in their room made itself a fixture
That consumed two whole entire people
And made a solid relationship frail and feeble.
“All you need is love, Mommy.” Echoes in the empty halls,
“All you need is love,” even written on the walls.
“All you need is love” his little voice sweet like honey
“All you need is love…” no, baby….”All you need is money.”
