Lost in the Darkness
A Reflection of Living with Major Depressive Disorder

I wander through shadows that never recede,
A silence that suffocates, louder than need.
The weight of the night presses deep in my chest,
No dawn on the horizon, no moment of rest.
Tears fall like whispers no one can hear,
Salted reminders of every fear.
Each drop a confession, a scream in disguise,
Washing down faces with hollowed-out eyes.
The world moves in color, but I am in gray,
A ghost among bodies, fading each day.
Breathing feels heavy, like drowning on air,
Each second a battle, alone in despair.
Pain isn’t sharp, it’s a dull endless hum,
A cold that won’t lift, a beat of a drum.
Every thought is a weight I can’t lift,
Every dream is a lie, every smile a rift.
And yet I remain in this cruel, endless war,
A prisoner locked behind memory’s door.
Existing, not living — a life incomplete,
Fighting for footing with chains on my feet.
But if these words find you lost in the same night,
Know you're not broken, just buried from light.
And though the darkness can swallow you whole,
There’s strength in the breathing, in holding your soul.
