Lost Eyes
Will You Learn To Accept I'm Settled?
I walked into my regular shop,
I had been going in there for years before
you appeared,
You stared at me from behind the counter
with lost eyes,
You noticed I was married,
And you looked more lost,
You know I've been through decades of pain,
You've known me since I was a teenager,
But you left me in early adulthood;
At a time when I needed you most.
What was I supposed to do?
Live a life of continuous torment while
I waited years for you to come back?
My dearest friend;
I still remember the past before when we
were close,
You could have had it all,
But you chose not to;
You chose to run because she broke your heart,
You chose not to take a chance with me,
Denied your feelings,
Even though you knew we wanted to be together,
Now, you know I am married,
Yet even after not seeing me for decades you
still insist that you love me,
Though you couldn't stay during the years I needed
you most,
Yes;
I understand,
You had to go away and change your life,
But you never stayed in touch with me,
You disappeared like a lone wolf,
Afraid of being bitten twice,
I never saw you again until now.
My life changed because it had to,
I couldn't take another decade of
pain, torment, and loneliness;
I deserve to be loved;
I didn't deserve to be trapped like a prisoner
inside my own heart,
Waiting for your return,
I am happy now,
No longer miserable,
No longer tormented,
I have a family,
And a man who loves me,
I have something I have always wanted.
Never the less;
Those early days of our friendship have not
passed me by,
You can have it, if you open the door and make
an appearance,
But;
The question is,
Will you learn to accept that I'm settled?
As you always said,
"It is what it is."
