Lost, and found

Someday

There will come a time

When dusk will frame your quietude

Like parentheses on an afterthought

And hold you there in reverie

^^^^^^^^^^

And, in that world

(a long, long time from now)

When all your life has settled

As the ripples from a stone

Subside

^^^^^^^^^^

You may yet glimpse the shadow moments

Of a time long cast

Aside

And remember

^^^^^^^^^^

That sometime, someone who sensed

Intensity with rare acuity

Sensed heaven in your words,

Found solace in your words.

^^^^^^^^^^

Your patience like a faithful blanket

On an icy December morn

Covering the chilled nub of my pain.

Here I can rest with only my thoughts and fears

And know that, in this blanket,

All bitter is refracted, all sweet absorbed.

^^^^^^^^^^

Someday you may find a book that speaks

Of your life and find me a bookmark there

And you will open to the page and read

The words that enshrine you ever

In my heart:

I was lost, and you found me.

^^^^^^^^^^

And, though I lose my way tomorrow

And tomorrow

I will remember those words

And hope again.
