Losing Myself in Nature

How losing myself in nature helps me find myself

Losing

Losing my grip.

Losing my mind.

Losing my patience.

Losing my temper.

Perhaps it is time

For losing myself

In nature.

I walk out the door,

Down the driveway,

Across the lawn,

And into the woods.

It is not far.

Yet it is a world away

From the world

That drives me there.

I breathe a sigh of relief

As I pass from the sun

Into the shade

Of the ancient, towering trees.

A path - well trodden - winds through

The creeping myrtle

With its sky-blue flowers

Winking at me

Like smiling Irish eyes.

I reach the bench:

Cool stone,

Decorated with rosettes

Of moss and lichen.

I sit beside the babbling brook,

Mesmerised by the rushing rivulets:

Splashing among the rocks,

Dancing in the sunbeams,

Singing as they race away.

I lose myself in nature;

And find myself.
