Lonesome Heart

"[Each] one longed for its other half, and so they would throw their arms about each other, weaving themselves together, wanting to grow together.”-Plato

I.

I'm struggling to find words

For this encompassing feeling

Of grief-tinged desire,

Of loneliness and longing--

Made into weak flesh.

My desire for a half to my whole

Riddles my body with holes,

Where the aching yearning

Pours out over my heart--

My lonesome heart!

Of which no one is a part.

II.

I've found the beauty in me,

But I'm still searching.

I need someone to see

My beautiful heart;

To hold it in their hands

With gentle love

And no harsh demands.

To give me theirs back--

'I see your heart and you see mine,'

There is nothing more divine.
