There is something,

In the walls?

In the house?

In my head?

No.

In a room.

Locked.

The room is dark

We want out

Is it so bad,

To wish for freedom?

Only at the expense of someone else.

To escape means switching places.

Meaningful exchange.

The man in the top hat

Is always watching.

Careful, careful little bird,

Wings are easily clipped,

And hearts are not easily replaced.

Is it so wrong to want to escape?

Yes, but only when someone you hold dear must take your place.

There is movement,

In the walls?

In the house?

In my mind?

No,

In a room,

A locked, dark room.

We want out,

Out of the dark and the creeping.

Is it so wrong to wish for freedom?

Perhaps,

But only when you’re the one that locked yourself in.
