Living In Between
Preservation And Restoration
Hiding in the open,
Headphones in my ears
Interaction avoid
Body language is clear
Don’t want to accidentally meet
The consequence, controls fear
The ploys to keep you from me
Refuse to waste one more tear
Cause it’s addictive when you to think
That something about you, might matter
the loudest words, when they leave
And in your soul, hear the laughter
So you keep yourself locked down
Living like a prisoner of war
Avoid looking like a clown
Convinced you don’t need love no more
Freedom pinned on the wall
Flight is now, just a dream
Preservation is all
Living somewhere in between

Sounds like the ups and downs of many relationships.
This is very true! Loved your poem!
"All we need is love." But sometimes what that looks like is a love & care of ourselves. As my wife likes to point out, when Jesus defined the two great commandments for us, love of self is included with love & God & neighbor. It may not be that we are to love ourselves more, but it certainly is not that we are to love ourselves less. "Love you neighbor as you love yourself." Be well, my friend.
