She rode a fissile asteroid

Into an exploding star.

The gas giants sang,

Little Sunshine.

The girl who burned out,

Eliminated herself

In the Godless inferno.

The flame bursts of light,

Warm behind earthling eyes

Made them stretch their necks,

To grow upright,

And walk with greater purpose.

The bone hammer, the rock axe,

The blade, the bow

The gun, the bomb,

The power to kill one and all.

Her glowing gift of growth

And knowledge,

Squandered in the bloodied sand.

She burns and burns.

Even when we become dust,

She will look out from the fire

And all of creation will sing,

Little Sunshine.
