A Poem

I can’t let mistakes of the past
affect my future,
and I can’t let other people’s mistakes
live inside my head,
filling me with dread.

It’s weighing on me
and feeding my depression.

Let this be a lesson
to anyone who ever trusts.

Let me be a guide
to anyone who ever lusts.

We learn,
we burn,
and sometimes we lose.

But it’s all in how you play the game,
and I’m just the same today
as I was tomorrow.

And I’m just the same in the past
as I am right now.

Time is linear,
and all the things that crush me
in this very moment
lift me up
at a different point in time.

And I can’t lie
that I’m afraid of every waking moment,
but I can try
to find the sunshine in the rain.

This too shall pass,
and I will last
beyond the fear,
beyond the wonder,
to fight another day.

And even if someone else’s mistakes
ruin what I have,
perhaps it was never mine
to begin with.
