i am violently awakened by the electric shock of misery;

bewilderment finds me:

i am shipwrecked, a pyrrhic victory.

my trembling ankles are chained to the shore;

sea glass gashes decorate my pruned limbs;

my skin is bruised a familiar shade of cerulean blue;

and my bone marrow is being served on ice.

an ill-tempered storm is coming for me,

the guests of honor are clouds dressed in black and blue.

as the spotlight shines, i realize:

that sadistic man on the moon is laughing at me.

he punishes me-

waves like glass shattering over my body;

the salt of a lost man's sea melting into my wounds,

endlessly.

i'm stuck in limbo.

brittany schmidt

starry-eyed human with romance tangled in her hair; probably off napping somewhere.
