A Guide To Disappearing

Let it all fade away,

Just like whispers in smoke.

You can just disappear.

It’s not all that hard.

Close all your doors.

Turn off every light.

Take a deep breath,

And say a goodbye.

Don’t be afraid.

There’s no shame in what you do.

You’ve done all you could.

And now it’s time for you to rest.

Cross out your name

Like it’s not even yours.

Look in the mirror.

Paint over your face.

There’s no need to worry.

You’ll be done soon enough.

No more labor. No more pain.

No one will even come looking.

Lie down on your bed.

Let your heartbeat lay still.

Think of all the people

That you’ve ever known,

And imagine them walking away

Without any regret.

Think about darkness,

With its somber embrace.

Walk into the shadows,

Turn off all the lights in your mind,

And forget whoever you were.
