Like Static
It crackles when I move

The atmosphere’s like static,
it crackles when I move
A misplaced word or action
Could light your angry fuse
.
Your eyes are dense and dark
Your mind is far but close
Enough to take offence
And I will pay the cost
.
I moderate my breathing
Fear has made it harsh
And the space between us shudders
To the pounding of my heart
.
Like a bomb that’s sitting dormant
But will soon begin to tick
You quake with held-in fury
It's nearly time to flip
.
I move away, but slowly
Through toxic, loaded air
If I can make it outside
There’ll be less static there
