Life Was Different Then
The world was safer in so many ways

Life Was Different Then
Life was different then beneath smoky skies
Neighbours still spoke while looking in eyes
Children stayed playing till streetlights came on
Nobody panicked when daylight had gone
Front doors stood open through long summer heat
People shared stories out there in the street
Laughter drifted from old radios low
Simple small moments now distant as smoke
Photographs yellow with edges worn thin
Still hold the warmth of the world back then
Before every silence was filled up by screens
Before life became rushed and endlessly keen
Grandmother stitched by the fire each night
Grandfather humming while fixing old lights
Nothing expensive or polished or grand
Still love lived openly there in their hands
Life was different then, slower somehow
People made promises meaning them out loud
Tea tasted stronger on rain-covered days
Time did not vanish in quite the same way
Perhaps every generation says this
Mourning old versions of comfort and bliss
Still part of me aches for that vanished place
A softer old world time cannot replace
