Life's a Color Palette
Enjoy the Ride
I was a blossom of the desert,
raised in stretches of brown and tan,
in dirt and sand.
I sprouted from drab green cacti under
a rainless blue sky.
My petals unfolded in the sun,
catching the orange, the red, the yellow,
synthesizing.
I struggled against the harsh windblown dust
of the desert spring.
I transplanted to the mountains,
where I wilted in the navy, the dark, the white,
the frost and snow.
In the cold, my world encompassed
in withering gray.
I came to life again with the spring,
grasping for the sun and the kaleidoscope colors
of wild mountain flowers.
I followed where the light led, adapted and grew
from the shadow of the mountains.
About the Creator
Kayla Todd
I love writing almost as much as I love reading, so it's a good thing writing is my job. I have a degree in Creative Writing and am currently writing my first book, but my "big girl" job is technical writing for a software company.
