Life Returns

Senses of Spring

Pink and white petals fill the air with each gust of wind.

Swirling and eddying in gray gutters

Transforming the scene into a magical fairyland.

Grass that was so dry and crinkly is now a bright green dotted with dainty violets.

The snowdrops that promised new life with the first kiss of warmth have given way to bright forsythias.

Tulips and daffodils raise their heads like the hands of students vying to be teacher’s pet.

Lilacs smell as sweet and as heady as love's first crush.

Later they will yield to the voluptuous rose and peony but for now its scent rules the virginal air.

After a couple of hot days, the trees will pretend that they were never bare, and we will believe them.

The birds will return in the mornings to serenade the new dawn.

Bees will buzz with their important work promising future fruit and fresh honey.

Only the mornings remind us of our recent past, but we shed those memories like our jackets in the sun.

Hope has triumphed over despair,

Love defeated icy despair.

Life is crowned the resurrected victor over death.
