life on mute.

stillness is the moment between two songs on the radio, struggling for reception.

into a void I scream for an escape from the liminal space, trapping me and my stifled steps trudging the carpeted floor.

loudness is the vibrating fridge in the empty room, the electricity mains hum from fluorescent lights hanging in the hallways and dying neon lights in the noiseless streets, now darkening.

except I can see you through the flickering screen, the disturbance in the dead air, the feeling of prickling on my neck in this abandoned landscape, a still picture.

next to you with static separating us as a veil, you talk loudly to other people, although the volume is muted when played back .

creeping behind the screens of the backrooms, my shadow sometimes shows up in the corner of your eyes, the unuttered words on peoples lips, the thought that slips through the cracks.

echoes ricochets back from the void as hushed voices and I run to answer the call of the void, but I realize, it was only me
