Life Like Thunder
A sonnet on what doesn't last

Life like thunder buzzes through the branches,
where a billion voices together sing
their presence. Their song is an avalanche
of memory; lives carried on orange wings.
Their voices crest and lull, and with them comes
summer: trees, grass, infinity enshrined
in long days spent beneath the golden sun
when life exists outside the bounds of time.
Yet time indeed goes on, and soon the sound
of loud existence dims to quiet close.
Where once was motion, now all movement drowned
as Earth spins ever onward to repose.
Remember this when it feels all too fast:
To listen in the moment is to last.
