Muscles seize

breathing stops

Tension rises

over the top

No where to run

no where to hide

Beneath the facade

living a lie

Footfalls approach

a knock on the door

Voices are heard

commanding come forth

Officers step in

dress blues heavily starched

A flag in their hands

it’s time for the march

Bugles are blaring

the chaplain is here

Someone pulls up a chair

says to sit down right there

Service has ended

this one and yours

Folds Old Glory

one two three and four

Pressing the triangle

all that is left

Into my hands

a heart that’s bereft

A tear slides down

cheeks porcelain red

Angel fingers reach out

a touch from the dead

A gentle jolt is all

his heart to mine

Taking my hand

now together in time

sad poetry

About the Creator

Gypsie-Ami Offenbacher-Ferris

Gypsie is a nickname given to me years ago. I love to travel, do not stay in one place very long and I’m a long-winded storyteller/author.

I have two grown children and one grandson whom I love “to the sun and back a million times!”
