Life Is a Diet
Life is a diet I try and fail each day,
A silent struggle I don’t dare say.
I count the crumbs, I skip the bread,
But still the hunger fills my head.
They call it will, they call it grace,
They never see the saddest face.
Each bite a choice, each choice a war,
And shame just waits behind the door.
The scale decides if I’m enough,
Its numbers cold, its judgement tough.
I breathe, I sweat, I push, I pray,
Yet still the weight won’t go away.
Pills and potions don’t work for me,
Food hides my shame too visibly.
A comfort cloak, a quiet shame inside.
For the fat girl I am, I try to hide.
