As I lay on my bed I begin to ponder
Why I gave myself to you.
Vulnerable and naive,
This love was like no other.
Holding on tight like a rose inside my palms,
Allowing the sharp prickles to wound my tender skin.
But the pain was bearable,
Your beauty was all my eyes could see.
Blinded by the persona I created of you,
Slowly losing myself to become who you wanted me to be.
I let you break my walls and strip me naked.
For it to only fire back,
For you to run and hide.
Distress and assumptions building up in my mind,
Wondering why I was not good enough,
Not knowing my worth.
I was weak and you had the power to take over.
Now Your true colours begin to peak through,
I am No longer blinded by the love I imagined.
I am no longer the muppet of your show.
I don’t regret giving you my love and time,
Maybe that’s what you needed.
But it’s now my time,
Time to give myself the love I deserve.
