I am going to throw myself into the sun

Being in your light is a shadow of its warmth

And I have been so cold for so long.

I understand if you’re mad at me.

It’s nothing personal.

I simply wish to feel something,

And what can be felt more,

Than heat so hot it warms the earth?

With you, I am seen

framed in silver light

as your dust dances in the air

Worshipped as a goddess of you,

celebrated for your beauty

not mine.

I would rather cease to exist,

than walk another night

following your trail.

To the next worshipper

Who thanks you,

As they gaze upon me,

With their hands, lips, tongues.

I no longer wish to feel their hunger

For you, as the next best thing.

Instead, I will cease to exist.

Almost immediately.

I'm not even big enough

To register as a flare.

I will be consumed rather than worshipped.

Irreplaceable, after being devoured.
