Let's Be Reasonable

Listen, you need to understand

Like so many before you, fallen to a false idol

Listless, haunted glow in your eyes like

Little hellfires, pinpricks of future days

Lantern large in wax faces and stiff limbed meat bags,

Lurking along the edge of what's really going on,

Longing for the Kinkade yard and Cleaver haze,

Looking for the future when you've earned living,

Let's be honest- right- let's just admit it-

Like the gleam of zirconia in that yellow ring,

Like the glare of airplane lights ruining your starry sky,

Like the inescapable truth of your numbered days-

Listen . . . this was always gonna eat you alive.
