something is coming
sending chills up my spine
like a snake in the garden,
where children play for fun
and the wise man
sitting on the porch
eyes weary, long-serving
telling us kids
we will learn in due time
so i wait
for that moment
that feels like the phrase
hindsight is 20/20
only then will i know
what fighting back tears
from the snake that bit my heel
was good for
poet's notes ~ stream of consciousness behind the poem
wisdom is of such interest to me. the play on the phrase, "with age comes wisdom" is what i wanted to highlight. the imagery of children who lack wisdom and the ones who look out and caution you when you're young. the catch is some things you never really learn until you grow up
