What ever happened to the fallen tree leaves,
Who were swept up forever on an eternal breeze?
It’s as if the Earth says,
“Move! Move! Make room for the new!”
“Go! Go! It’s time for the snow!”
Are they buried underground after they are swept away
To wither away in their eternal resting place?
Are they forever journey-bound on a forceful wind,
To never touch ground and feel the Earth again?
Is it written among the stars, way up above?
Or is it written on the wings of a flying dove?
The trees! They know! Swaying in the wind,
Wondering when this cycle of life and death will end
The trees! They know! They know where the leaves go!
They know their fate, right up to date.
The trees whisper their secrets to all
Explaining why, when, and how the leaves fall.
But trees, oh trees!
Why do you not hold on,
to the fallen leaves who are now gone?
Can’t they just stay,
while the other seasons come to lead the way?
The trees speak these things,
But the trees speak an unspoken language that no one understands.
So I guess the world will never truly know.
