There's a place I like to go,
Down twisted dirt roads
With sun riddled patches and flowers
Ever blooming beneath fern fronds,
Cool parts of the forest that whisper
Of a great marvel of creatures
Flickering in the trees and calling
In gentle morning sunlight
As bejeweled webs sparkle.
Enchanting and alluring,
This part of my mind
Tugs me down to paper
Or away to daydreams so that
I may layer thoughts and vision
Over the drab gray of reality.
It's escape and home all
Neatly package and prepared for
My wondering heart and
Aching soul to settle down
Deep where I could perhaps grow
Roots and sink into the soil
Further still. And monsters
May lurk there as well,
But goblins and beasts seem
Small in price when dragons
And magic await just beyond
The next page, the next thought.
And, I want to go there today
To leave behind the burden
Of work and toils of stress.
But, alas there is no time for more
Than a fleeting thought of wishes.
